Is Your Relationship with Your Adult Child What You Want It to Be?

Parenting doesn’t end when a child becomes an adult. In many ways, the challenges become more complex while the answers become less clear.

Every Parent Can Grow

Is your adult child a prodigal, a disciple, or somewhere in between?

Every parent can learn to build a healthier relationship.

Learn practical, biblical ways to build a healthier relationship with your adult child.

It’s not that you’re not trying to have a better relationship. It could be that you have tried everything you know to try. To that end, we have created a curriculum to walk you through relationship struggles and challenges, whether those struggles involve faith, addiction, mental health, life choices, or differing values.

Hope

Trust God even when you can't see what He's doing.

Connection

Know you're not alone, whatever this season brings.

Faith

Grow in your own relationship with God as you learn to love your adult child well.

About Mark & Kim

We’ve Walked This Road Too

Mark and Kim Shorman have been married since 1987. They are parents and grandparents who have walked through both joy and heartbreak with their adult children, including addiction, prodigal seasons, and years of uncertainty.

Out of their own family experience, they developed Beyond Shut Up and Pray, a curriculum that combines biblical principles, practical communication tools, and relational wisdom to help other parents strengthen relationships with their adult children.

What Parents Are Saying

Stories From Parents

A few words from parents who've gone through the class.

Understood without explaining

It blessed us to be able to share the pain, and hear the experiences of others who have a grown child no longer walking in the faith. No explanation was necessary. There was just understanding, hope-infused comfort, & practical application of scripture. Kim's and Mark's creation of a curriculum whose genesis was born out of their own journey makes this more than just a “how-to” checklist.

Practical communication tools

The Shorman's Adult Parenting class gave me practical ways to communicate more effectively with my adult son. I appreciated how each lesson was grounded in Biblical principles and offered helpful, real-life communication ideas.

A new perspective on their kids

We have three adult children, and we found the concepts in this class to be very helpful. We discovered that how we approach our adult children matters greatly, and this class helped us to understand how we can better relate to them. This has not only improved our relationship with them, it has helped us to worry less and trust God more, and to see things from a new perspective. Thank you for this class!

Prayers to return to

I particularly appreciate the curated prayers at the end of each session. I use the handout to reread and pray for my kids and myself as a parent.
