Out of their own family’s experience, and countless conversations with other parents, Mark and Kim Shorman developed Relationship with Your Adult Child, a curriculum that combines biblical principles, practical communication tools, boundaries, forgiveness, and relational wisdom to help parents strengthen relationships with their adult children.

Our Story
Married since 1987, and still learning
Mark and Kim Shorman have been married since 1987 and are parents and grandparents who have walked through both joy and heartbreak with adult children. Both became Christians at a young age, but they grew up in very different family cultures and have spent a lifetime learning how faith, family, communication, and relationships intersect.
Engineers by training and students of people by necessity, they have navigated many of the same challenges faced by parents of adult children. Their family journey included navigating addiction, prodigal seasons, mental health struggles, and years of uncertainty that ultimately deepened their faith and reshaped their approach to parenting adult children.
How They Teach
Honesty, grace, and a little humor
Their class combines biblical principles, practical communication tools, boundaries, forgiveness, and relational wisdom to help parents strengthen relationships with their adult children. Mark and Kim teach with honesty, grace, practical insight, and occasional humor, creating space for parents to feel encouraged, understood, and equipped.
In addition to teaching this study, Mark and Kim regularly meet with both parents of adult children and young adults seeking healthier family relationships. While they are not licensed professional counselors, this perspective gives them insight into both generations as they offer biblical encouragement and practical relationship tools.
